The Roma TRE PhD programme is oriented both to ensure excellence standards in the field of research and to provide to PhD students valuable, enriching education; the objective of the programme is to provide researchers with the competencies and the attitude to perform research and development activities at a very high level in the private sector, in the public sector and in the academia.
The PhD program of the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering section of the Engineering Department offers a broad span of high-level training courses and it is linked with many high quality international research activities. It aims to prepare students for future leading roles either in Industry or in Academia in several crucial fields, such as Aviation and Aerospace, Energy, Industrial Production and the Environment. The industrial systems involved in the production of goods and services are continuously evolving toward new and highly diversified forms, providing specialized solutions for complex problems. Old and new technologies have to be managed with a consistent degree of multi-disciplinary technical and scientific knowledge, in the perspective of a sustainable world. Candidates can apply with a project proposal within the following scientific areas: Aeronautical Engineering, Aero elasticity and Aeroacoustics, Business Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Applied Physics, Fluid Dynamics, Manufacturing, Materials Science and Technology, Mechanical and Thermal Measurements, Mechanical Design and Engineering, Production systems engineering and Safety Engineering and Excavation work (specific topics within these areas are published for each yearly Call). Depending of its attitude and specialization, the PhD student will: acquire abilities in analytical and numerical modelling and simulation, design and experimental design; attend conferences, schools and seminars; learn how to write, manage and exploit a research project, learn how to write scientific papers and technical reports, be involved in science from theory to lab practice, with a problem solving approach; have the chance to spend a training period in an international Research Center. Finally, advanced skills acquired will be also useful for a consultancy career.
